Quitting Smoking Cold Turkey Sucks — This Is Infinitely Better
According to the CDC, 13.7% of Americans smoked cigarettes as of November 2019. Officials have made it more than obvious that smoking tobacco is addictive and dangerous.
Quitting isn’t easy. The human body develops a tolerance and a dependence on nicotine (and other addictive substances in cigarettes put there by the companies creating them). There are as many different ways to quit as there are smokers. Some ways are easier, and some ways seem nearly impossible.
Cut & Run
I call this technique “Cut & Run”. You cut the tobacco with something, and you run with it. It’s simple, but it does require a little effort. If you’re used to buying packs of cigarettes from your local gas station, you’ll have to learn to roll your own. Rolling your own cigarettes isn’t difficult, and can be done while watching your favorite TV show.
It is a technique that old housewives have been using for generations. The story goes that an old lady got tired of her husband’s tobacco addiction. She waited until after he went to sleep and she dug his can of snuff out of his pants pocket. She had bought some tobacco-free snuff blend earlier, and filled the empty space in the fairly new can of chew with the tobacco-free stuff. The next day, the old feller didn’t notice. Every night the old lady repeated the process, and after weeks of this happening — the old man remaining blissfully ignorant — the snuff can held nearly no trace of the original addictive chew.
It took months before the old man did the math and realized that he hadn’t bought any chew in a long time. He brought it up to his wife who came clean and told him the truth. He hadn’t had any drug in his system for weeks, and he didn’t even notice it.
It’s pretty easy to find rolling machines online: for $14 I bought a metal roller machine and a pack of 300 hemp rolling papers. Once you have those, all you need is tobacco — pipe tobacco works just fine — and filler.
What to “cut” with?
The biggest problem with this system is that it’s difficult to find something pleasant to cut the tobacco with. You can go down to your grocery store and buy cloves and roll yourself some clove cigarettes, but that’ll get pretty expensive, and after a while you’ll be rolling yourself mostly cloves and no tobacco.
Herbal Witch Blends is a company based out of Washington that develops herbal smoking blends: they organically source non-addictive herbs, and then hand-mix them. Some of their blends can be smoked on their own, but they’re meant to be mixed with tobacco. I like to smoke Felurian by itself (it’s got a kick), but Your Wife is the best to mix with tobacco for this purpose,
Smoking is still cancerous, no matter what is in the blend. The best way to avoid being hurt by it is to stop completely.
Sometimes herbal blends smell like weed, so always be ready to answer questions and have the ingredients list of the blend on hand. In today’s climate concerning marijuana I have never had a problem with anyone, but it’s best to be prepared, especially if you’re smoking at work or somewhere that you shouldn’t be under the influence.
